Ghana’s digital trade shifted as services exports declined from Africa’s top spot, while imports doubled, and ICT goods and services shares fell below regional peers.

  • In 2022, Ghana led Africa in digitally delivered services exports at $6.2B (19% of Africa’s total), ranking third behind South Africa and Morocco in 2024. || Source: WBG
  • Further, Ghana’s digitally delivered services imports more than doubled from $4B in 2018 to $8.5B in 2024, mirroring trends among regional peers.
    + The same year, the country was ranked as Africa’s third-largest importer of digitally delivered services, with business services driving nearly 80% of total digitally delivered services imports.
  • Moreover, ICT goods accounted for 0.06% of Ghana’s trade in 2023, down from 0.26% in 2018, while Côte d’Ivoire led the subregion at 0.14%. || Source: UNCTAD
    + And, in 2023, ICT services made up 1.99% of Ghana’s service exports, a 13.1% decline from 2022, and well below Côte d’Ivoire’s 8.98%.
